NSG 416 Nursing Theory Perspectives (Phoenix)
In the middle of the twentieth century, interest in defining nursing knowledge increased as nurses became aware that theories from other disciplines could not completely describe nursing. Each of these theorists describe nursing from a different perspective. One nursing theory stands out for the care of surgical patients, and that is Dorothea Orem’s self-care deficit theory. Orem’s theory is significant for evaluating, treating, and educating surgical patients and their caregivers in order for patients to receive appropriate post-operative care and healing.
