Preview:
The Conflict
In 1948, the Jewish state of Israel was adopted and recognized by President Harry Truman of the United States and by the United Nations via U.N. Resolution 181, known as the partition resolution. This partition established a division of occupied and sovereign land inside Palestine for the establishment of a sovereign Jewish homeland.
Upon its adoption, Arab Palestinians threatened to attack the nation of Israel as soon as Great Britain withdrew from its role in Palestine as a result of a mandate post World War II. Thus began a conflict that has ebbed and flowed in veracity to the current day. Despite numerous attempts at mediation, arbitration and intervention, the conflict has yet to be resolved in any permanent way. United States political tides have shifted back and forth due to the conflict.
