TARES Evaluative Essay – Remicade
Over the last ten years there has been several pharmaceutical drugs used to treat the autoimmune disease known as Rheumatoid Arthritis, one such drug is Remicade or its generic name infliximab. Remicade is known as a biologic, a genetically-engineered protein made from human genes and is intended to inhibit specific parts of the immune system that play pivotal roles in driving inflammation, which is a major indicator of rheumatoid arthritis. The drug must be prescribed by a Rheumatologist and it is administered by intravenous infusion and predominantly treats moderate to severe Rheumatoid Arthritis that has not responded adequately to other treatments.
